The theme:
"Everything got going when I found the neutral colors of the Pottery
Barn Kids Chamois Lambie. I loved it," says Karen. "Then I found out it
was being discontinued that very day! We ran to the local PBK store and
bought all the bedding on sale."
The project:
"It took about four months to put everything together," says Karen.
"The cherry furniture was on sale, and the glider we found in the
clearance room at Ashley Furniture. Other accents we added little by
little. Brian painted the mural in a weekend. He is far from artistic,
but he found a picture online, blew up the image on the wall with an
overhead projector, traced it, and then painted. He also did a complete redesign of the closet using ClosetMaid shelf
tracking. The nursery is small (about 10 by 14 feet) and the closet is
about 10 by 2 feet, so it was important to add more shelving to such a
narrow space. Then Brian put in new laminate wood flooring after
tearing up the old carpet. He really didn't plan that much beforehand,
but was able to complete each project in a weekend -- with many trips
to Lowe's for parts."
The budget:
About $3,350. The closet was a hidden high cost at $350, but the mural was cheap at $25.
