The theme:
"I chose simple, clean patterns and pink hues
that will be classic and timeless and easy to add to as my daughter
gets older," says Caroline. "Lambs accent the room because a lamb was
my favorite stuffed animal as a child."
The project:
"I bought three simple blue floral dust
ruffles from a clearance bin at Pottery Barn Kids," says Caroline. "Two
were used on the bottom of the crib, while part of the third is a
bookshelf skirt and the other part became accent pillows. I paired the
fabric with a pink ruffle trim and a crisp white pique fabric. My
mother and mother-in-law made the bedding set and accent pillows. The bookshelf is actually an antique pie safe from my grandmother's
house. It was hospital green, but I painted it a crisp white to match
the other pieces in the room. I purposely left it rough to show the age
of the piece. Then I bought Pottery Barn baskets to put on the shelves. The three paintings over the changing table were done by my youngest
sister, an art major at the University of Tennessee. She copied the
flowers from the curtains. And the picture over the bookshelf is a
framed piece of sheet music from the musical Kiss Me, Kate."
The budget:
About $1,000. A lot of the furniture came
from family. By far the most expensive item was the pink upholstered
rocking chair for $350.
