"We have relished every pregnancy milestone, every kick, roll and crazy movement this boy makes in my belly..."
Here I am, less than two weeks from my due date, and although sometimes it felt like an eternity away, I can’t believe how close I am to having my first baby!
Matthew and I have had quite a whirlwind romance. We met in February 2006, got engaged in December 2006, married in September 2007 and found out we were expecting in early January 2008. We are beyond excited to meet our little boy, Matthew Jr., later this month.
My pregnancy has had its ups and downs. I was lucky to not have had morning sickness and besides craving nothing but carbohydrates for the first three months, I haven’t had any food aversions. I have had the occasional Charlie horse, the typical fatigue, and a few mood swings (my husband may tell you I’ve had more than a few of those), but I can’t complain about any of it. (And if he knows what’s good for him, neither can my husband!)
The low point of the pregnancy came at the end of my first trimester. We had a genetic scare that led us to a decision to have a CVS. The four days of waiting for the results were excruciating, but the test showed I am carrying a perfectly healthy baby boy. I think the scare brought my husband and me even closer together, uniting us as a couple and as parents-to-be. We realized then what a miracle we had and have taken nothing for granted. We have relished every pregnancy milestone, every kick, roll and crazy movement this boy makes in my belly – I think we may even miss our quality tummy time once he’s here!
Although we encountered some bumps along the way (including the most recent bump, a sciatic nerve problem that has me on modified bed rest), all is well with baby Matthew and we are sitting here playing the waiting game, anxiously anticipating his arrival. His nursery is ready, his little clothes are washed, his bassinet and swing are put together and there are a ton of stuffed animals everywhere you look in the house – all we need now is the baby!
