re: Mother's Day Gift Giveaway -- From the Hips

the best tip i got about parenting was: "Whoever said you wouldn't be able to love a second child as much as the first is obviously not a mother!" it eased my mind set that any "mother" can share love with how ever many children they have or plan to have! and it helped because i love both my daughters endlessly!

That you may or may not feel super connected to your baby just yet but that the second you lay eyes on your little one they day he or she is born that you fall into the deepest love that you could ever imagine with that baby!

Labor and Birth are about to things Endurance and Surrender.  One needs to be strong enough to forceful about the kind of birth wannted but must know when you surrender to circumstances or fate beyond one's control.

The best tip I've received so far is TRUST your body knows what it's doing. It's helped me to worry less about everything with my first and only pregnancy (and the doctor's have proved it to be true when I don't have the trust and go in!)

re: Mother's Day Gift Giveaway -- From the Hips

You are not a failure if you can't follow all the 'pregnancy rules' all the time for 9 whole months. Your child will not be permanently damaged if you really, really have to have a hot dog at the ball game, if you forget to take your prenatal vitamins, or if you weed the flowerbed.

Regarding birth...  "Our bodies were meant to do this - your mom did it, her mom did it, and all the women in our family before us did it - you can do it too!"

(and I did!)  :)

Don't worry about failing as a mother - just loving that child with all your heart will put you in the right direction. You can't fail at taking care of a child when you love that child more than yourself - it's just impossible.

re: Mother's Day Gift Giveaway -- From the Hips

shave your legs and eat before heading to the hospital to deliver. You won't feel up to shaving for a while and it'll make you feel a little better knowing that you did shave (plus a shower or warm bath can really help with the pain of contractions) and you won't be able to eat when you get to the hospital, so you might as well eat before you get there!

The best tip I've received so far is "let her spend time alone."  I get so frustrated feeling like I have to entertain and teach her every second of the day, so it's great to remember to put her in a safe place and let her read or daydream or look out the window so that I can do the same.

re: Mother's Day Gift Giveaway -- From the Hips

If you have the ability to get a private room for recovery after the delivery, DO IT!  It was the best advice I ever got from a friend who shared a room (and a bathroom) with another new mother and hated it.  You hear their baby, their family and their not so lady-like moments.  It's best to be on your own if you can.  :-)

The BEST parenting tip I received was to trust your Mommy instinct- it is always right!  Listen to your own little voice talking to you not the HUNDREDS of other people who will be telling you what to do.

re: Mother's Day Gift Giveaway -- From the Hips

That even though pregnancy can be a rough time, once the baby is in your arms, you will have no problem thinking about doing it all over again.

I had a rough start to my pregnancy and I wasn't sure if I would ever want to go through it again, but everyone keeps reassuring me that I will want to do it again once the baby is here!

The best pregnacy advice I received from my doctor, he said: "Every woman who has had a baby will tell you stories about their delivery/pregnancy, they are all telling the truth but it doesn't mean the same things will happen to you."  This has been very helpful advice to keep me from worrying!!

re: Mother's Day Gift Giveaway -- From the Hips

The best pregnancy advice I received was to enjoy my first pregnancy - you won't be able to relax and be pampered as well in subsequent pregnancies because you'll always have an older child running around.

The best birth advice I got was to be prepared for anything (too bad I didn't take it).  My son was born 4 weeks early and I didn't have a hospital bag packed or anything set up.  The day I got out of the hospital I was at Target trying to buy things like crib sheets and shirts for my son.

The best parenting advice was that a messy house and dirty clothes can wait, they'll still be there tomorrow, but those moments with your kids won't always be.  So play another round of peek-a-boo or pretend you're a fairy princess - relive your childhood.

re: Mother's Day Gift Giveaway -- From the Hips

For those of you who aren't the "biological mothers" of your children: Why can't step-moms be considered moms too? My son (technically step-son) knows that he has two moms even though his real mom doesn't try to be connected to his life. Giving birth is not the thing that connects you with a baby or a child, it's your heart
