Tell us: Wacky baby names?

Posted Monday, October 27, 2008 11:52 AM

First there was Blanket. Then came Apple. Then Zuma. And now, Archie. Is it just us or do celebrities take certain liberties when naming their babes? Comedians Amy Poehler (SNL, Baby Mama) and Will Arnett (Arrested Development, 30 Rock) introduced their son, Archibald 'Archie' William Emerson Arnett, 8 lbs, 1 oz. in New York on Saturday, October 25th. Archie apparently is named after daddy, whose full name is William Emerson Arnett. Um, OK, so where does the 'Archie' come from--Archie Bunker? Archie Comics? Are we being punked? And will these famous tots have anyone to sit with at the lunch table?

Tell us: Is this a celeb-only trend or is it happening in your neighborhood too? If so, what's the weirdest baby name you've heard of from a regular (aka non-celebrity) couple?

I grew up knowing this girl named Tootie. That's pretty rough on a girl.

We went to high school with a boy named Jessamyn. Everyone called him Jesse, but when substitutes would do role call, the class would always laugh. Nice kid though!

I am a labor and delivery nurse and I have heard some pretty horrible names. Here are some of the top worst. Twins named Orangejello and Lemonjello. A girl named La-a pronounced Ladasha, yes you pronounce the dash. Also VaGina, Syphillis and Female.  Some people are jsut cruel.

You know, I went to school (no kidding here) with two very uniquely named girls.  One was named Perky and the other was London Bridge.

re: Tell us: Wacky baby names?

An old boss of mine named her daughter Lake. Not necessarily wacky, but definitely different. (It actually kind of grew on me.)

re: Tell us: Wacky baby names?

while the celeb name Archie is not common anymore, it is by far NOT the strangest.  It is probably the most normal name in a long time... Does anyone remember the baby Moxie Crimefighter?

re: Tell us: Wacky baby names?

A woman that was a friend of the babysitter I had growing up named her daughter "Baday" (pronounced like Bidet) because she thought it sounded pretty and had no idea what it meant.

re: Tell us: Wacky baby names?

I had a classmate in elementary school whose given name was Peanut Newton.  When we got older, he had his first name legally changed to . . . Fluno (pronounced just like it's written flu-no).  That's what you get in rural Southern Virginia, I guess!

re: Tell us: Wacky baby names?

I remember a set of twins named Chevy and Chevette while I attended elementary school.  Turns out they were "made" in the back of a Chevy.

re: Tell us: Wacky baby names?

A Co-worker of mine named her son Maverick..this was right before the presidential election, but now it seems almost like a funny term rather than something cutting edge.

I knew a girl named Tara Buttoff - it's so funny when you say it together!  Now, it just makes me wonder if her middle name is Rosey...

re: Tell us: Wacky baby names?

I think some parents are just cruel. I worked with a guy named Kim Burly June. His sisters name is April May June and I knew a  Jeane Poole (married name, so that one is just bad luck!! lol) Some think my daughters name, Verona, is strange! So some people just have a low threshold for 'weird' names
