If I don't win a diaper bag, DH says I have to carry the baby's stuff in a grocery bag!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

Our very first trip out of the house with our son, to his first pediatrician visit at 5 days old, we didn't bring any extra clothing with us.  We had diapers, wipes, changing pad, etc., but no extra clothes.  The doc's office is a quick five minute walk from our house, we wouldn't be there very long, why would we need extra clothes?

Well, first he pooped out onto his onesie.  The outer layer was still intact, though, so we changed him, took off the onesie, and put his clothes back on without it.  Then he peed through that diaper and his clothes were wet!  Thank goodness we were so close to home - although we cringed, we put his wet clothes back on him after the doctor saw us, wrapped him up tight in a blanket, and got home as quickly as we could.

Needless to say, I have never left the house without at least one change of clothes for him since!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

Diapers!!! Really..... I had to go visit a friend who was leaving the country and I drove 30 miles to her house without diapers. We ended up going over to the store to buy some and while we were gone her mom babysat my son and he pooped his diaper. She went next door and "borrowed" a diaper from the neighbors. She is soooo blind and wasn't wearing her glasses. She wiped his butt with a lysol wipe. When we got back I was mortified. She said she could't find the wipes. Turns out I forgot those too.....

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I have forgotten the whole diaper bag once when we went out of town to visit with my relatives.  DH had to go to the store and get diapers, formula, bottle, and a change of cloths.  My Dh and I have never forgotten it since.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I've carefully packed my diaper bag a number of times, but still managed to leave home without the baby bottle. As a result I've got a nice collection of random bottles left at aunts, uncle and grandparent homes in two states.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

Henry's grandmother bought tickets for us to go to the circus when he was 14 months old.  When we were home getting ready, Henry brought me a diaper and handed it to me.  I thought-how nice he wants to help by bringing me a clean diaper.  We load into the car and arrive at the circus.  We picked up my son to find that he was sitting in a pool of wetness.  My husband took his outfit off and realized he had NO diaper on.  It suddenly dawns on me that the diaper Henry was trying to hand me at home--was actually the diaper he had on and then took off.  He rode 30 minutes in the car—diaper free!  We had no change of clothes and the circus was about to start.  My husband ran on foot to the mall across the street and bought a new outfit for him and then promptly ran back.  We missed the opening act!  We both vowed never to forget a change of clothes again and to pay attention when our son hands us a diaper.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

We went up to the lake for a nice quiet evening and forgot bottles.  We had the swimsuit, two changes of clothes, diapers, formula, the whole nine yards.  Even plenty of toys.  We were only going to be gone for 2 days.  The worst part was we were having so much fun in the water that my DH didn't stop to eat until she was starving.  I started running the warm water, reached into the diaper bag and there was not a bottle in sight.  We took her crying and us barely dry and ran up to the nearest grocery store, 10 miles away, just for a bottle.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

What haven't I forgot?  Diapers, extra outfits, milk, spit up cloths, and wipes.   The best was when I only had one outfit packed and my daughter managed to blow out on both of them.   I had to try and wash the pants by hand and matched it with a terrible top for my SIL's baby shower.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I've left the house with out diapers and wipes a couple of times.  The time that was the hardest was when I was taking my son to his doctors appointment.  It was a very long trip to the doctors, between the wait in the waiting room 1st.  Then we moved to our room and we were in the room waiting for the doctor to come see us, for quite a while.  Ethan was in need of a diaper change and I realized I didn't bring any diapers and wipes.  His diaper was full and I wanted to clean him up before the doctor checked on him.  I stuck my head out the door and asked a nurse if they had any diapers in the office.  They did but the largest they had was a size 3!  I had no other option but to use it so he wouldn't leak all over his clothes.  He wears a size 5 diaper.  Since we were at an appointment I just couldn't pop into a store really fast and buy a package of diapers.  I felt awful.  As soon as we left I took him directly to get changed.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I actually left home without diapers!  A whole diaper bag full of everything else you can imagine, but not 1 diaper!  I thougth DH put some in there, he thought I did. . . turns out, nobody did!  DS had to wear a burp cloth home as a diaper, but we made it without any major accidents! :)

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I have actually left the house without diapers and wipes, I have a small diaper bag and my hubby had been watching my son the day before and I didn't think to check to see if my normal "5 diapers" and wipes were in the bag, I had to buy a pack of diapers and wipes from a gas station due to my son having a "poopy"!  Those are pretty must have, especially sinces its the main essential to having a diaper bag!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

Left home without extra pants, and of course that was the only time my son had a blowout at church. Thank goodness the pants he had on were ones that dry quickly so I put them on the little space heater in the nursery after hand-washing them at the bathroom sink... They were mostly dry by the time church was done- thank goodness because it was the middle of winter!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I sent my husband and mother to my son's 1st pediatrician visit.   And though I sent them with a diaper bag, it didn't have a blanket in it (who knew I needed one!).  The nurse asked my husband to remove the baby's clothing and he did.  My husband tried to keep him warm by laying the baby's clothes on top of him, but it was summer and the AC was on.  The baby was so cold,  he peed on my husband.

To make matters worse, by the time the doctor came in, the baby was screaming.  He must have been hungry.  My mother says was sucking on his bottle, but still screaming.  Turns out the nipple didn't have a hole in it.  The doctor had to use a syringe with a needle to puncture the nipple.

Eventually, it all came under control.  But I had to hear how I sent them to the doctor without a blanket, with a nipple without a hole, and without a change of clothes for my husband.  After that, you'd think I'd never forget another thing...but not so.  Maybe this new diaper bad will help organize me!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

Ive left home without a bottle. I freaked out. I drove 45min away from home, got there, went to pull out the bottle to give to Finley and it wasnt there. I swear I put it in, but I accidently left it on the counter, then realized I left the formula on the counter too. I had to run to the store and get both. I felt so bad and like such a bad mommy.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

On our first outing to the doctors, i packed everything for my TWIN boys but nothing for me, not one menstral pad OR breast pad, so needless to say i was leaking from both and had to use paper towels from the restroom and remained uncomfortable until we got back home. Us mothers need to also remember to bring our own necessities as well. I hope i win so that i have more room to pack stuff in this diaper bag, with Twins one is never enough!!

I was at Walt Disney world with my son, who was about 13  months old. I did not pack enough diapers for the day and by miday was totally out of diapers. I had to hang around a bathroom to hopefully find a mom who could spare a diaper and one around the same size.  How embarassing!!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I left the house without any diaper or wipes thinking that nothing would happen while I got a pedicure, I was so wrong.  My son 5 weeks at the time had a runny bowel movement that leaked all over him and myself.  It would be nice to have a diaper bag so that I do not forget them ever again.  No one likes a mess.

I left home without baby wipes and burp rags.  Imagine a reflux baby without burp rags and dirty diapers without wipes...YUCK!  Luckily I did that on two different occasions, or else I would have been a stinky wreck by the time we got home.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

I left the house once without DIAPERS, for my then 5 month old. I had to take my DH to the doctors and while we were in the waiting room, of course, she had a horrible, explosive poop- you know the kind... the one that's eeking towards the edge of the top of the diaper every seccond, that EVERYONE can smell. Yah, the receptionist was turning GREEN. I, of course, hadn't realised that i forgot to re-stock the diapers and pulled the one off of her, cleaned her up and went for a fresh diaper. To no avail. I had to leave my sick DH at the doctors while I packed her up in her carseat and went to buy more diapers from the CVS down the street. I stuck a birp cloth in her pants as a "diaper" but it wasn't a diaper style birp cloth- it was the towel kind. That was fun.  Another time I forgot her bottles- we were going about an hour away for the day and I prepared all the bottles we'd need, and left them sitting on the counter. We didn't realise it untill we were half way there- so we had to stop and pick up a couple fo bottles, formula and bottled water! We came home to find the bottles sitting on the counter- but we had to throw them out since they'd sat out all day!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

Yep..... left without the entire diaper bag.  It was just me and the baby on a 4 hour road trip.  Two hours into the trip.... when I really needed it... I discovered  I had left it at home.  With screaming baby in hand, I found the closest Wal-Mart and begrudgingly bought e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g all over again.  ugh.

My husband meet me and didn't bring the diaper bag because he had just changed her and was only going to be out of the house for 1 hour.  You all know what happened, she had a nice poop.  Luckily I had a plastic bag in my car with a diaper, and wet paper towel did the trick.

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

My sisters once brought my niece over for me to babysit, with a raging case of diarrhea and only 2 diapers.  I felt so bad that her last diaper she had to stew in until my sister came back (I tried setting her on the toilet, but it freaked her out).  After that instance I don't think I can EVER forget diapers.

I had both of us ready to go to town for the day.  Presley and I were going to get my nails done and then tovisit daddy at work for lunch, then to the mall for some shopping.  I had the fdiaper bag loaded for the day.  When we got to the salon, which is 25 minutes away from our home, (we live in a small town, so we have to drive the next town for mall shopping),  I realized that I had forgotten the entire diaper bag!  We went straight home afte rthat.  Luckily, Presley had a sippy cup of milk with her in her seat!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

Diapers of all things to forget to refresh in the diaper bag.... Thankfully I found an old one (a tiny bit tight) but it worked at the time... But the worst was when we went to one of his check ups and in a cold cold cold room the dr left us there to "check" something and the next thing we know pee went everywhere.... clothes socks etc all in neat pile soaked... Hubby grabs blanket to cover the little guy.... I grab the mess of clothes and clean up the rest of the mess but then as I go to grab the change of clothes my hubby informs me "OH I forgot to tell you yesterday I cleaned out the bag and forgot to put clothes in there" <shaking head>  All I could do was pray and hope that wee man didn't decide to weeee in the blanket...

Hmm... there unfortunately has been more than one occasion in which I forgot something!  When my little man was only a few weeks old, we went to church and I forgot his bottle AND his pacifier.  Well of course he got hungry during service so I had to use my God-given pacifier, my fingers.  With some rocking/bouncing and lots of fingers, I was able to keep him calm until I could feed him.

I've actually left the whole diaper bag at home before. lol And it never fails, that when I go on my "quick" jaunt to the store, the baby chooses that moment to pee/poop thru their outfit, projectile vomit everywhere, or sneeze a nice long snotty trail.

Hello!  We didn't leave home without an item, but how we traveled was kind of unusual!  Our oldest son will soon be 20 and we first traveled by car when he was

3 months old.  That was before all of the car seat laws. We had this small Isuzu

car. My husband took the front passenger seat out and I sat in the back with our son. Mistake!!!!!   My husband built a special wooden diaper changer place for me. That way, we could travel longer without stopping. Please enter me in your wonderful drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

We went for a trip to my in-laws for dinner one night when my son was just over a year old.  I didn't pack a change of clothes.  In the quick 15 minute drive to their house, my son managed to have about 4 episodes of projectile vomiting and we stopped in a grocery store parking lot so that I could go in and get a onesie and other things needed to clean up his mess.  It was horrible!  I learned after that to make sure I had lots of extra clothes!  As his vomiting issues continued, I also learned to pack an extra shirt for myself!

re: Retro Stripe Diaper Bag Giveaway Contest!

We had a "doo doozy" of a time waiting for our tire to get changed at Firestone! First, my son pooped through his clothes onto me while I was nursing him(first time nursing out in public too I might add-haha). Then, I took him to the public bathroom there & realized they did not have a changing table. I also realized our portable changing pad was not in the diaper bag! Well, I ended up having to change him on the bathroom floor using a lot of paper towels under him.  I will never leave home without the changing pad again!
