re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Sometimes it is difficult to find a decent place to change or nurse the baby when you are out shopping.  I hate to use the restrooms because they always seem so dirty.  Instead, use a fitting room inside a department store.  It provides a little more space and some privacy and usually a cleaner place to put your stuff and lay baby.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Kind of ironic, but use a baby carrier!  I have both an Ergo and a BabyHawk, and they make for GREAT traveling.  You have the baby close to you, but you can still use both your hands to find your plane ticket, carry your luggage, and even go to the bathroom if you have to!!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Keep your diaper bag really well organized.  Use gallon sized ziploc bags to put outfits in.  That way all you have to do is grab a bag for a change of clothes and then you can put the dirty ones in the bag.  Plus, if something happens to spill/leak in the bag all your clothes stay dry and clean.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

If you are in an airplane, make sure you bring a bottle or try to breast feed during take off and landing so that their little ears do not pop during the change in altitude. This will prevent a lot of fussiness.  If possible schedule travel time around their nap time so the trip will go by faster for them!!!!!

I always leave the house when my little one is sleepy. Whether it's in a stroller, a car, or a shopping cart, she sleeps through everything and is in a good mood when we get home.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I always keep a few new toys on hand to pack in my daughter's diaper bag.   The newness of the toys works great to keep her occupied when we're in a restaurant, doctor's office, long car ride, etc.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

My suggestion is even though it can be costly, to always, whenever possible buy a seat for the baby.  After an hour of flying without a place to put baby, your child won't be the only one crying.  Having its own seat will assure a little rest for mommy too!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

As a first time mommy, I must admit that I had no idea how to travel. After a few months, I’ve found a few tricks that work well for me. A baby carrier is a must have. Once my daughter starts potty training, I’m going to get a little potty to put in the back of my car for when we are at the park or watching daddy at a softball game

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I plan our outings around baby's naptime.  She eats then gets ready to nap so our outings are smooth.  Also, I found that early morning doctor appointments work best because her disposition is best.    The doctor hasn't had time to run behind yet, so you don't have as much wait time in the reception area.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Most important: Don't be afraid to travel! You will get in a groove and improve your process each time you take a trip.

We live in FL and have traveled with our children to Key West, Colorado, NYC, Hawaii (8 hours+ on a plane, etc...) we packed everything but the kitchen sink on our first trip and probably took 30 minutes getting through airport security, now we have streamlined our packing and whiz through the security lines....kids in tow!

A good tip I use for big long flights, bring your child's pajamas with you if the flight interupts their normal nap or bed time, try to replicate their routine at home, brush teethe, read a story, etc....routines are soothing to children and this small easy step will help your child fall asleep on the go.

Oh yeah, and for 8+ hour flights/trips in the car a portable dvd player with a few favorite charecter dvds is a godsend!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I have bought the Podee bottle and it is the greatest thing in the world for traveling!! I also have packed in the back of my trunk a little emergency duffel, with wipes, diapers, a change of clothes, and some unopened ready made formula, and a clean extra bottle and paci! I always have my ipod with baby songs on it(*if I turn up the volume and hold the earphones by his head he can hear it and loves it, and a handful of the baby rings(*his favorite toy*) I always take my sling to put him in if he is upset it soothes him in an instant! p.s. ladies don't get to hyped up about winning the prize! I won something months and months and months ago, the they never sent it, I have contacted them a ton, and they keep having an excuse and never have sent it lol!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I use a diaper bag and a little box to organize everything I need at hands reach. In the diaper bag I keep travel sizes of everything I need for diapering, skincare, and any medicines I might need (gas relief, baby tylenol, orajel, etc). I only put things I need for out of the car in the diaper bag. In the box I have more diapering gear (you never know if you'll need more), toys for the car, food and snacks, blankets, and whatever little things are appropriate for the trip. I also like to have a bribery snack for those times where you jsut can't stop and your little one wants out; however, I wouldn't recommend an oreo, because if your thought they could make a mess with a cupcake .....

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I find it helpful to start any outing with my baby on a full stomach.  If I change and feed her before we leave, chances are she'll fall asleep at the beginning of our trip (the stressful time).  Second to this, travel light.  My biggest focus in making sure we take something so she can sleep comfortably.  If she doesn't sleep we don't.  Good luck to all but I hope I win!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

headphones so that little ones can be distracted by the mini televisions.  We usually fly virgin america or jetblue.  these airlines give everyone their own tv screen with the ability to change to the disney channel or other movies!  Disney channel keeps them occupied for hours, they don't want to leave the plane once we've landed.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

My advice is to plan traveling around feeding schedules.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Always make sure you have extra supplies: clothes for you and baby, diapers & wipes, snacks (for you and child), small toys/books to keep child occupied. There are so many delays in travel and your little one gets just as irritable as you do so be ready to entertain both of you.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

My advice would be to have a feeding and diaper/potty moment as close to departure as possible. Have snacks and activities ready and organized and to do your best to depart during naptime so that baby can rest in the car or on the plane.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I like to keep the toys with the suction-cupped bottoms in my diaper bags.  That way when we go out to restaurants, the toy is stuck to the table and not constantly on the floor.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Go out often!  If your baby gets used to the idea, it will be easier to travel over time.  The more your child is out in public, the better they will act while you're out when they are older.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Keep 2 diaper bags with at least 1 of them fully stocked so you can just grab and go without having to pack the bag as you're heading out the door.

When we have trips that involve driving for an hour I try to schedule it around nap times.. That way he's nice and refreshed when we get to a friends house to play.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

We traveled by car from Chicago to Oklahoma City just after Christmas with our then 15 month old.  Little worried she would want constant attention/want to get out of her seat/cry/whatever would make the trip miserable and longer.  So, we brought books, a scribble doodle for her to write with, lots of snacks, her own music, and a DVD player (which she didn'e use because she is not much into videos yet).  These things alone kept her very occupied.  On occasion we had to get in back and read to her or comfort her, but not as often as we thought.  We also stopped to get out and stretch our legs, which often backfired on us because she just wanted to walk and play and not get back into the seat.  Often we would try to push it so we wouldn't have to fight with her.  But overall...very nice trip.  We would do it again!!

Our advice, keep them occupied with what suits them at the age they are at.  Books, bring books.  Stuffed Animals, bring them.  Stickers or rattles.  And make them new ones...ones they haven't seen before so they are even more interested.  Snacks/sippy cups...have everything at hand so you don't have search and try to find it while they are crying and getting worked up.

I always leave a fun toy or two that my 20 month old son normally doesn't play with and it keeps him entertained the whole trip! Also, I bring a book or two so he has some choices on what to do!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Frequency is the key! Get that baby out into the world and get him/her used to being in public places with multiple sounds and sights. The more "at-home" they feel when away from home, the more likely they are to be less fussy!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I like to be modest when out in public, I've found a nursing cover-up that is essential for breast-feeding.  They come with a strap around your neck so you don't have to keep adjusting a blanket.  I've been able to breastfeed anywhere and keep my baby happy (and everyone around us, too!)

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

When I am preparing to take my son out with me I pack his bag the night before if I am leaving early. I make sure to pack a light blanket large enough to cover my lap. I use this to help hide myself when breastfeeding. I also make sure to pack a warm to hot bottle so I can just throw the formula in and he is ready to go. (my son is half bottle and half breast fed) I make sure that I leave right after he has eaten if possible.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Last time we traveled with our formula feed baby, we took an empty thermos past security.  We then filled it with warm water (the temp we made her bottles) this way we did not have to call the flight attendant when we needed to make a bottle, plus often they have hot water for tea so you need both hot and cold to get it the right temp.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

We are a military family and have had to live in hotels for a couple of months at a time. This means a lot of eating out with baby/toddler. The portable dvd player is not only for the airplane and car. We break it out with Baby Einstein at  restaurants routinely. The little guy will usually behave half the meal, then when he loses it, we break out the player and get to finish our meals. Nobody has ever complained (the sound's down really low or off) and kids at nearby tables usually enjoy it as well. Also, the car seat with easily deployable wheels to turn it into a stroller has been invaluable. We've taken it all over the US, Canada and Europe. It's great for airport/plane use!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

The best thing for making baby travel smooth is to start them in the car as soon as possible.  I actually had my baby in a different state then we lived because my husband is in the military and we weren't sure if he was going to be deployed and we wanted to be near family.  A week after he was born he was in a car making the 2hr drive to Nevada.  About once a month or more we were heading down to california to stay with my mom or my husband's family...especially if i was getting lonely and the hubby was working a lot.  By the time my son was 10 months we decided to take a road trip from Nevada to arizona and then back up through california.  he did such an amazing job!!!!!!!  Getting your kids used to a situation from a small age is really the best way to make most situations smooth.  As he gets older i provide different age appropriate toys that are his favorites just in case we need them for the drive to visit family but most of the time we don't.  he loves to look out the window and see whats going on.  Now he has just taken his first air plane ride.  It was a little difficult at the very beginning because he was having so much fun running around the airport.  but once we got situtated in our seats it was just like a car ride!  it was amazing!!!  good luck ladies but i'm keeping my fingers crossed for myself!  LOL!!!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

On airplanes, I give my 1 1/2 year old a new toy from the cheap toy bin -- usually an animal than winds up and flips, or a small book. Look in the party favor department for cheap entertainment, it doesn't have to last long! One of his favorites is a ball made of tiny suction cups that he takes on and off the window-- I highly recommend getting a window seat.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

A few years ago, someone gave us a can koozie that you can freeze.  The obvious intent was so that you can keep your beer cold, but I've only ever used it to keep sippy cups of milk cold.  I found it harder to travel when we switched to milk, until I remembered those freezable can koozies.

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

I had my son out on his first outing at just a few days old.  We visited his grandparents (both sets!).  The best travel advice I could give is to start early, so you can become very comfortable with the situations that may arise while you're out.  We travelled 23 hours straight in a car when my DS was just 6 months old.  Our trunk looked like a playroom, and there was barely any room for our stuff, but I needed to make sure my son would have everything he needed to feel comfortable.  For the car trip, we brought his jumper.  When we would stop, we would set it up in the parking lot and let my son jump around while we ate our breakfast/lunch right next to him.  It was a rest stop, picnic, and exercise session all in one!  We brought 2 baskets of toys, and kept switching the baskets so he would never get bored.  We didn't have the option of a portable DVD player, nor would it have entertained my DS long enough.   We tried to keep his schedule as close to what it was on the road, as it was when we were at home.  Packing formula pre-filled bottles (fill w/ powder only, then add bottled water), was easy.  But now when we travel we have to worry about milk or juice on the road.  I always remember that McDonald's has kid sized milk that you can buy in the drive-thru... pour it in DS's sippy, and away you go!  Always keep toys in your diaper bag/console of your car.  My DS is at the age where he needs to me entertained most of the time.  Also, always keep a well stocked diaper bag for long road trips. It will make you feel more comfortable, and your trip will go smoothly!

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

my best tip before leaving anywhere with baby is to make sure you change is diaper and make sure he is fed before going anywhere. if baby is clean and full he is happy and that makes any trip all that much smoother.

Also, bibs are a must! They catch all that drool and spit up when you can't

re: My Baby Nest Carrier Giveaway

Always have your diaper bag stocked! Pack like you will be gone overnight even if it is only going to be a couple of hours. You never know what might happen to delay you or what may get on clothes! also make sure baby is clean and fed before you leave.
