re: How Big is Baby?

Thanks to Paula for finishing the "How Big is Baby" timeline! My entire family can't hardly wait each week to find out what the new fruit/veggie is -- so I was disheartened when the original article only went up to week 20. I'm glad to see it's now carried out all the way to month 9! Although, I do agree that month nine could be something better than a cucumber??

re: How Big is Baby?

I love this timeline! It gives such a great visual. I am a nurse in an OB/GYN office and I am definately going to tell my patients about this. Thank you!

re: How Big is Baby?

For month nine . . . what about a certain sized pumpkin?  i'm not a doctor, and so i'm not sure that it would be the correct size, but it does seem like it would be bigger than a honeydew. just a suggestion.

re: How Big is Baby?

Spaghetti squash maybe?  That seems more reasonable...

re: How Big is Baby?

I am not sure how I feel about the Cucumber comparison, but the rest are awesome!!! LoL, my son was def bigger then a cucumber when he came out!!

re: How Big is Baby?

OOhhhhhh I see. Never seen an English Cucumber before! Sorry about the last comment, I understand now!!! LoL.....

I tried to think of another suggestion, but you are right, its hard!! :) I LOVE this timeline!!!!! THanks!

re: How Big is Baby?

I don't understand the comparisons either. A melon is definately bigger than a cucumber or a bannana.

re: How Big is Baby?

How about a small pumpkin or watermelon? Even a large cabbage (hence, "Cabbage Patch")?

re: How Big is Baby?

I would much rather imagine giving birth to a cucumber than something like a watermelon!

re: How Big is Baby?

Ok- how about a Spaghetti Squash... its the perfect shape and size!  In my opinion of course :)

re: How Big is Baby?

I think a large zucchini would be a good comparison.  It has the length of a cucumber, but more bulk and weight.  I know I have pulled some out of my garden that fit right in your arms like a newborn.

re: How Big is Baby?

it does sound a lot easier to birth a cucumber.

The fruits and veggies make sense when you look at the little info at the bottom....    :)

re: How Big is Baby?

i think my cucumber is actually the size of pie pumpkin or bigger!  but thanks for giving us a visual timeline.

re: How Big is Baby?

I think a spaghetti squash or a small pumpkin would be better too.

re: How Big is Baby?

On week 9 it states that baby is no longer an embryo, but is now a fetus. That is not correct. The baby becomes a fetus after 8 weeks of embryonic development, which would be week 10 according to LMP. You start your timeline at week 4 and have the embryo as a two week old zygote.

re: How Big is Baby?

wouldn't it be easier to follow if you used the measurements based on actual  other living animals? For example. week 20, your baby is the size of a chipmunk!

re: How Big is Baby?

How about a PUMPKIN or a WATERMELON or even a GOURD for month 9.  After all, that's what it feels like!  :)

re: How Big is Baby?

Can we have lbs and inches with the grams and cm.  I have no idea what 300 grams is equivalant to or 43 cm.  Not unless I get out my ruler and calculator anyway. :)

re: How Big is Baby?

i would have to agree that cucumber just seems off, and if it is supposed to be an english cucumber why wouldnt they just say english cucumber.

re: How Big is Baby?

Great to see it in inches!!!  It's a lot easier to tell other people now when they ask how big the baby is...

re: How Big is Baby?

This is really cool because I can tell people "my baby is as big as a plum!" One thing that kind of stinks though, is that visually, the chick pea looks like the same size as the watermelon...they're all zoomed in to make them all look the same size!
